The Shape of Water
Although we don’t usually show a film in August and never on a Friday, we have a pop-up film club on Friday 31st August to recompense for our July cancellation. The Shape of Water is set in a secret research facility in Baltimore in the 1960s where a lonely janitor forms a febrile relationship with an amphibious creature that is being held in captivity. Starring Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Doug Jones and Octavia Spencer it won Best Picture at the last Oscars and received glowing reviews. It may prove a refreshing end to the summer’s heatwave.
We start again in September with an eclectic line up of films including The Phantom Thread, Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis (Welcome to the Sticks, one of France’s most popular films), The Breadwinner and a much-loved favourite for December, Calamity Jane. Look out for exact dates in our emails.
Do come and join us. As ever, we meet in Compton and Up Marden school hall, doors and bar open at 7.30pm and the film commences at 8pm.
